LET IT SNOW ELDER NEELEY...HAPPY NEW YEAR 2015!

We finally figured out how to save this video on our blog...we hope you all enjoy this enthusiastic Elder Neeley.  We also testify that what he says is true.  We love serving in Palmyra, New York.

Elder Bushman and I went to see the movie "Unbroken" about Louis Zamperini.  I read the book last summer and wasn't sure I wanted to attend the movie.  I told Elder Bushman I was weepy for a week after finishing the book.  I knew Elder Bushman would not read the book, so went to the movie.  I was weepy all the way home and still choke up when I think about the film.  The film did not mention when Louie met Billy Graham and began his healing.  I'm sure Louie is very happy today and his story is the dark side of war and the power struggle of the nations that is still going on today.  My prayer goes out to those who have to suffer through war memories, so sad and so unnecessary.
It was snowing when we drove to Victor to the theater and was still snowing when we returned.

I also found a small photo of Vivian Moynihan that I have.  Her funeral will be on Friday.  I look forward to serving with you, Vivian, in another temple in another time.  Sweet rest to a sweet widowed saint.

BYU defeated Portland 97-88.  Now this was the best home evening in a long time!  Merry Christmas to the BYU basketball team & your fans! #sharethegift

Today is our daughter Heather's 39th Birthday.  It doesn't seem possible that much time has passed since the doctor announced we had our baby girl!  We love you Heather and pray that today is a great day for you.  We pray that 2015 will be a healing year for your heart and body and soul.  We pray you always enjoy helping to raise your four beautiful children.  We love you with all our hearts.
We got ready to leave for the temple this morning.  I opened the window to this.  We were so involved watching BYU last night we hadn't noticed it snowed all night.  It was beautiful and we had about 4 inches.
We tried to drive up the hill to the temple, but kept getting stuck...so we turned around, came back down and The Roundy's rescued us.  They followed us back to the Inn and then gave us a ride to the temple in their 4 wheel drive.  It continued to snow until noon.  We came out of the temple and the maintenance crew had cleaned the walks and plowed the parking lot.
It was cold but sunny as we walked to the McGarry's car for a ride back to the Inn.
Thank's to both the McGarry and Roundy families for your help today.  We had a very busy but peaceful day at the temple.  A 92 year old brother, in a wheel chair, and on oxygen came and was sealed to his diseased wife today.  He had about 40 guests attend with him.  This ordinance complimented the beautiful snowy white day we all arrived in.

It's New Years Eve and so we got together in the Evening to Party at President and Sister Brighton's place.  Elder Bushman watched football most the day.  I did some indexing and reading.  We both took a nap so we could stay up past midnight...what wooses we are!  We had to wait till the third quarter of the Boise & Arizona game was over before I could convince Elder Bushman to go to the party...thank's for winning that game Boise!  Ha!
We had an enjoyable evening with the rest of the missionaries, playing games, putting puzzles together, and watching a movie, and just visiting.  The movie was called "Belle" and is a true story of Dido Belle an illegitimate child of a mixed race.  This movie was a great way to begin a New Year and ponder our Heavenly Parents and this earth life experience we have all been sent to.  I hope each of us realizes how very important we are to Our Heavenly Parents.
We missionaries just enjoy being in each others company.

It is a New Year!  Happy New Year!

Elder Bushman bringing in the New Year!
Well I can't  remove one of these videos...and not sure they work...I need a computer tech this week.  Oh well, enjoy and Happy New Year!
We slept till 8:00 AM!  We then cleaned the apartment, did laundry & watched some of the Rose Bowl Parade and on to football.  We are having lunch with the McGarry's in their Inn room today.  I had to take a picture of all the ice cream in McGarry's freezer.  Elder McGarry eats ice cream after his lunch and dinner meals, too fun.
Thank's to the McGarry for celebrating the New Year with us.  We played a couple of card games with them and they whalloped Grandpa and I, but we still like them both!
We look forward to 2015 and thank the McGarrys for their kindness and goodness to us this afternoon.  They even made sure Grandpa Arthur got back to our room in time to watch  Oregon & Florida State Football.  He also has his phone on the BYU basketball game against Santa Clara...it is quite the tecky time to be a missionary!   Go BYU!
Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 4 January 2015
We enjoyed a quiet Friday.  I baked some cookies and we studied our Sunday School lesson.  Saturday we arrived early to the temple.  It was raining a cold sleet as we arrived.  I served as an ordinance worker all morning.  We had a young sister arrive to take out her endowments.  She was leaving on a mission to Thailand soon.  It was a delight to help her prepare for that eventful departure.  We wish her peace and joy as she embarks to a foreign land.  Sister Storman brought the most sweetest photo of Vivian Moynihan when she was a young bride.  She was so pretty.  Sister Storman gave me a copy to keep.  I spent the remainder of the day doing laundry in the temple baptistry.  Elder Bushman was a sealer in the afternoon.  We are so blessed to be Palmyra Temple Workers.  I thank Our Heavenly Father daily that I can enter into The House of The Lord and find peace and joy in His service.
BYU won their basketball game against San Francisco 99-68 YAY!  We found out this morning...they played way too late for Easterners to watch this game!
Today, Sunday, was Fast Day and we enjoyed Sacrament Meeting.  We learned that Bishop Scanlon and his wife are expecting a child in May.  We found that enjoyable and are saddened that we will be finished with this mission by that time.   We had such an enjoyable lesson with six of our students in Sunday School.  I wish we could protect each of them from the influences of the world.  Our love and prayers are for them to have a peaceful and joyful 2015.  After our meetings we drove to The Carmans to take the Sacrament to Marie's parents.  We have grown to love this family also and will be praying for their health and peace this 2015 also.  Marie taught the Relief Society Lesson before heading home to care for her family.  She is such a wonderful daughter to her parents.  We pray for her health and joy this 2015 also.
Art and Gus enjoying being priesthood holders.
Marie & Jean & Gene on a rainy Sunday.
As we drove back to Palmyra the sun began to shine and it was 50 degrees outside.  It was like a beautiful spring day.  We have been warned that it is going to be very, very cold this coming week....perhaps we can pray the freezing days away?
Monday, January 5, 2015
It was 15 degrees this morning when I went to go swimming.  I had to scrape off the ice on the windows and then drive to the high school.  When I got there the lifeguard told me that she had just learned the heater in the pool was not working...so I went back out in the wind and snow and drove home.  I could have been discouraged, but the snow was so sparkly in the car lights.  I enjoyed the ride even if I did not accomplish my object of exercising.
We are having home evening at the Hill Cumorah this evening where we will be watching Meet the Mormons.  It has been a busy and also relaxing week.  I hope each of you stay warm and remember to tell your children they are loved.  Hugs to each of you.  Grandma Gene and Grandpa Arthur

REMEMBER THE SAVIOR THIS CHRISTMAS

Monday, 22 December 2014
We ended the day by watching the BYU Football team loose to Memphis....it was terrible....they were so close and tied and went into overtime...such a sad loss...waa!   Everyone kept going upstairs to work on a puzzle that President and Sister Brighton are attempting...it was as difficult as this game!
We all tried to cheer BYU on...
Elder Neeley went a little crazy when they lost and everyone was laughing at his sorrow...needless to say we all felt bad for the team.  Even the team decided to have a boxing match after...whoops.

We were watching intensely.

We had a great dinner after the game.  We then went home and pouted because BYU lost.  Ha.
Tuesday, 23 December 2014
We served in the Temple this morning.  Then we rushed home so Elder Bushman could watch the BYU basketball team vs UMass.  There was a lot of shouting going on in the spare room...I chose to wait to watch the last 5 minutes of this game, which ended up going overtime for another five minutes!  Elder Bushman about went wild over this game...Ha!  They tied 62 and then BYU won 77 to 71 YAY!!!  I got a dinner out of the deal!  I bet Grandpa that if we win we go to dinner...if we loose we have sausage at home in the Inn.   Oh, the joys of sports!  I think Collinsworth won this game for us....thanks Collinsworth and Winder for a fantastic game.
Now we get to worry about BYU against Gonzaga on Saturday!  Both Elder Bushman and me had a stomach ache after that game...made us so nervous!
Elder Bushman enjoying his winning salad!
Grandpa had ham and Grandma had hamburger, yum!
Today is The Prophet Joseph Smiths Birthday.  Happy Birthday Joseph!  He would have been 209 today!  I wonder what he thinks of BYU Sports?
Happy birthday to our dear prophet Joseph Smith !
“Great blessings await us at this time, and will soon be poured out upon us, if we are faithful in all things, for we are even entitled to greater spiritual blessings than they [the faithful at the time of Christ] were, because they had Christ in person with them, to instruct them in the great plan of salvation. His personal presence we have not, therefore we have need of greater faith.”
— Joseph Smith

It has been such a privilege to walk where Joseph Smith walked.  We feel so blessed to be where His prayer was answered and He had the Vision of God The Father and His Son, Jesus Christ.   To be celebrating the birth of Joseph and Jesus in the same week is humbling...especially when we are in Palmyra, New York.   Thank you Joseph for believing in Jesus Christ and teaching us of His existence in our lives today.  We look forward to meeting the both of you.  We thank Thee, Jesus, for  the Gift of the Atonement.
 Happy Birthday!
"Lord, I believe; help Thou mine unbelief." Mark 9:24
"Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God." John 20:28
"Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed." John 20:30

It is Christmas Eve!
I put on all the tree decorations other missionaries have shared with us.  We have a grand dwarf Alberta Spruce Christmas Tree  I hope I can get it home and plant it in our yard for a Palmyra missionary remembrance!  Thanks again Patty and Merry Christmas to you and your family!
This is our room on Christmas morning!
 Our tree on Christmas Morning....
The Inn is decorated for the Site Missionaries for their Christmas Feast.
We are going to the Kruckenbergs for Christmas Eve and then to President Brightons for Christmas Dinner tomorrow.  The Site missionaries decorated so pretty I just had to take a picture.  Merry Christmas to all the Missionaries in Palmyra and on the earth at this time of Hastening the Work!
Fum, fum fum, the fireplace works at the Inn for Christmas.  We are suppose to reach 50 degrees outdoors today...and no snow in Palmyra.
"Ever sing of His Glory, Fum, Fum, Fum."  ...16th century Catalan Christmas Carol
These are pictures taken at the Kruckenbergs Christmas Eve party.  We had a very tender evening as we all shared a Christmas memory with our co-heart missionaries.
I sat across the room from Grandpa because we ate on our laps and I was worried about spilling on the couch...you know clutzy me!
The hostess, Sister Kruckenberg took a photo of all in attendance for our keepsake of this special evening.
Grandpa shared his story of seeing a boy walking past the window, on Christmas morning, with a new sled.  He told his mom he wished he had a sled.  His mom said, he had something more valuable.  He has the gospel of Jesus Christ and all that it entails.  He said it was hard to understand as a seven year old, but as he got older it became a tender mercy from his Mother that has stuck with him.
Thursday, 25 December 2014
Christmas morning we awoke to sirens about 5:30 AM.  We learned from Kristi, the main housekeeper, that our friend Patty's home has burnt down.  Patty is the friend who gave us the Christmas Tree.   This is so sad.  I spoke with Patty and she and her family are safe and they are going to spend Christmas with relatives.  Her Priest is providing clothing for them so they can change from their pajamas...how sad is this.  They were at her sisters showering as I phoned.  She said the upstairs collapsed into the main floor which collapsed into the basement, but no one was hurt.  They heard what they thought was a cat scratching on their bedroom door around 5:00 AM.  Her husband got up to check and it was popping sounds coming from a fridge or freezer in their kitchen.  The kitchen was already in flames.  She went to midnight mass on Christmas Eve and got to bed at 2:00 AM so sounded very tired.  Our love and prayers are with you Patty.  We know Christmas presents and memories of her twin boys growing up have been lost.  There are some things that can't be replaced.  I think Heavenly Father was watching over Patty's family this morning.
We met at President and Sister Brighton's home for the missionary dinner again today.  I felt so somber after knowing what Patty is experiencing today.  We spoke with each of our children and their families today also.  We just have to hope that The Lord will protect each of them as we serve here. We had a ham dinner with all the trimmings.
There was more than enough food as usual.
Sister Mortenson made this festive jello.  It took her six hours to make it.  It was so colorful and delicious.  Hurrah for jello!
 Grandpa Arthur was pleasantly full.
We have lovely sisters that we serve with.
When we finished our meal we had a gift exchange.
President Brighton started it off.
We ended with Sister Neeley.  Thank's for all the work you did for this dinner Lynnette.  We will always remember this Christmas.  She and Jon created a video, "Let It Snow" that is on you tube that describes their California thoughts of this mission.  It is a masterpiece and we thank them for sharing with us.  They are great missionaries as are each of these couples we serve with.
We hope you remembered The Savior, Jesus Christ, this Christmas.  Because of Him we can endure and carry on.  May 2015 be a peaceful and joyful year for all.  Merry Christmas to each of you.

We are getting our Sunday School lesson prepared today.  We will be teaching on our granddaughter Hannah Gene Bushman's 15th birthday.  Happy Birthday Hannah!
Saturday, 27 December 2014
We served all day Saturday and then sorrowfully watched the BYU basketball game that BYU lost.
Sunday, 28 December 2014
We had a lovely Sabbath day.  I took a picture of our Brooke who is in our Sunday School class.  She comes most weeks with different hair styles and many are very unique.  This week she came with this do!  She is a cute girl.  She brought a friend with her this week that is interested in learning the gospel.  You are a great example Brooke, keep up the good work.
Monday, 29 December 2014
We received word this morning that one of our Cortland Ward Members passed away yesterday.  Her name is Vivian Moynihan.  Her father-in-law is Bill Moynihan that we visited a couple of weeks ago.  He had open heart surgery, and a temple worker and widower in the Cortland Ward also.  We hope this death is not too hard on him.  Vivian was a temple worker with us also and served on the 4th Saturday.  We pray blessings to be with her family.  Vivian sang in all the Christmas cantata's this year.  She remembered the Savior this Christmas.  It is touching to know He also remembers her on this year end celebration.  Blessings to you Sister Moynihan.
We pray you all had a great Christmas.  We enjoyed speaking with all our children and their children too.  May each of us follow President Monson's ABC advice this during the coming year.
"At the advent of a new year, I challenge Latter-day Saints everywhere to undertake a personal, diligent, significant quest for what I call the abundant life—a life filled with an abundance of success, goodness, and blessings. Just as we learned the ABCs in school, I offer my own ABCs to help us all gain the abundant life.
A in my ABCs refers to attitude.
B is for believe—in yourself, in those around you, and in eternal principles.
C is for courage. Courage becomes a worthwhile and meaningful virtue when it is regarded not so much as a willingness to die manfully but as a determination to live decently."
Hug's to each of you as we close 2014 and begin anew 2015.   We love each of our children and each of you.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

PS  We will be cheering for a BYU win tonight!  Go BYU!  If you haven't seen Elder Jon Neeley's gift to us...please go to YouTube and watch LET IT SNOW by Jon Neeley   Our Californian, Palmyra Temple Missionary.  Thank you to the Neeley's  for the memorable video!

WITHIN OUR REACH: JOY!

We salute you.
Monday, 15 December 2014
Elder Bushman and I spent a quiet day in the Inn reading, doing laundry etc.  In the evening we went to the home evening at the Joseph Smith Homestead.  The Sister Site Missionaries lead us in singing carols.
They invited us on a evening tour of the homestead.
The painting above the Sister playing the piano was of "The First Vision".
The Temple Missionaries mingled with their Palmyra neighbors.
An Elder read us the Story of Christmas inside the 1st home that Joseph lived in in Palmyra
A family acted out the scene of when Joseph was introduced to his brothers and sisters after his birth.  The baby was so cute and this family did a great job in their portrayal of the Smith family.
Elder Bean read from the script of the home that Alvin built for his parents.
A missionary portrayed Joseph after he had obtained the plates and his worry about being able to translate them with people trying to steal them from him.
A missionary portraying Emma.
A letter arrives from Emma's father inviting them to Harmony.  Hyrum & his wife comforts the family.
We then moved to the Smith barn where Elder Bushman tried the ring toss game.
He got a ring to go over the peg..Yay!
Sister McGarry got a bean bag in the bucket...Yay.
As we walked back to the Smith Visitor Center we sang carols as we passed by the Palmyra Temple.
The temple was lit in the distance.  It was a good Home Evening that ended with hot chocolate and cookies.  Merry Christmas from the Smith Farm in Palmyra, New York.
Tuesday, 16 December 2014
We arrived at the temple at 7 AM to help with the early morning session.  We had a lovely morning in the temple.  We learned a Sister Davis, who is a temple worker, would not be there today.  Her Doctor wanted to deliver her baby a month early as the little girl had stopped growing.  We all were keeping Sister Davis in our prayers today.  We are anxious to learn of this little girls safe arrival.  Our love and prayers are with you Sister Davis.  *  Little Lucy was delivered by "C" section on the 17th and she weighed just over 3 1/2 lbs.  Baby and mother are doing good.   We will miss serving with you in the temple, but know you are off to a greater adventure...that of being a Mother.  Congratulations to you!  We will miss hearing your cute hick ups!
Elder Jon & Lynnette Neeley made this tile for us.  Thank you for this Christmas Keepsake.  We love it!
Grandpa Art and I decided today was the day to build the Gingerbread House that our children Troy and Amy sent us.  Troy made this delicious Gingerbread for us...I have already eaten one of the Gingerbread men and they are yummy!  They sent us several different kinds of cookies that Troy baked for us too.
The walls are up and part of the roof is on.
We tried to get the roof on safely, then grandpa shook and cracked one side down the middle.
I tried to put it back together with the drying sticky frosting, but it just stuck on my fingers so Grandpa added some water, too much water!  Now what do we do?  We got out some powdered sugar and got it mixed into a paste again.
Ha..here is our finished product.  We used up all the frosting before we could even get any candy put on it!  We decided the gingerbread men looked good on it and it will make a great treat on Christmas Eve at our Missionary get together...prepare to eat the best baked Gingerbread Ever!  It should be a really sturdy house by then!
Troy and Amy sent us bags of yummy cookies too...of course I have eaten all 5 kinds and Grandpa Arthur had one with a kiss on top.  Thanks Troy for being the best cookie maker ever!
The church announced today that they are going to shut down the Idaho Falls Temple for a year and a half and remodel it.  It opened in 1945. This is where Elder Bushman and I were married in 1968.   It has always looked like a birthday cake with one candle on it.  I can't wait to see it remodeled.
Also today BYU can now purchase Y Mountain!  Merry Christmas to all the students and former students of BYU.
Today is also my Uncle Billys 80th Birthday.  Happy Birthday Uncle Billy!  We wish we could have celebrated with you today.  We hope you had a fun birthday with many of your family present.  Love you!
Wednesday 17 December 2014
Served in the temple this evening.  It was snowing as we came out of the temple about 9:30 pm.  We had a quiet peaceful day.
Thursday, 18 December 2014
Served in the office morning and evening.  It was a peaceful day.
We returned to the Inn and watched the final minutes of the Womens Volleyball game against Texas...that was played in OKC!  Hurrah for  BYU!  Great games!  Jennifer Hamson visited the Palmyra Temple this summer with her family. They did baptisms. Hurrah for Jennifer!

Friday 19 December 2014
It is snowing outdoors.  We are hunkered down in the Inn enjoying Christmas Music and the beauties of this season. "Joy to the World"!
We enjoyed a fun evening with Bruce & Karen Nickell at Red Lobster in Rochester, NY.  We learned they missed their Christmas Dinner to dine with us...I felt bad, but sure appreciated them taking an evening with us.  Thank's Bruce & Dr. Nickell.  Merry Christmas

 Saturday, 20 December 2014
Served in the temple all day.  All the missionaries met at President  Brighton's to watch the Cougar Women's Volleyball National Match tonight.  All our children, that are in OKC this weekend, will be attending the game.  We will be looking for you'all in the audience!  Go BYU!  Too sad...Penn State whopped BYU.  BYU played great...they just were against a team as good as them!  Late that evening the BYU Mens Basketball team beat Stanford by two points, 79-77...they were lucky!  We are looking forward to BYU & Memphis Football on Monday afternoon.

Missionaries watching on big screen in President Brighton's basement.  Thank's Jon Neeley!
Our children had to send us a picture of them at the game...they were up in the rafters!  So fun that they all got to watch the game.
Sunday, December 21, 2015
Happy Birthday Elder Jeffrey Alonzo Bushman! ak...Elder McCain!  Elder Bushman is Grandpa Arthurs youngest brother.  He and Wendy are serving a CES mission in Long Island, NY!  Does he look like Senator McCain to you?
The Sacrament meeting in Cortland was wonderful today.  The Ward Chior put on a Christmas Program that was wonderful!  We had a good Sunday School class today.  We had a small class today, but it was fun to listen to them answer Elder Bushman's questions.  Relief Society was taught by Marie Carman and she did such a great job...no wonder you are such a good teacher!
After all the meetings we attended the baptism of Tyrone Williams.
Brother Moss baptised him so was telling him what was going to occur!
He got a picture with the missionaries also before his baptism.
I loved Sister Hapgood's vest today.  I had to take a picture for my children...I'm sure they could see me doing this...if only I had the tree pins.  Sister Hapgood said the vest is very heavy.  Merry Christmas to Sister Hapgood!  We love your festive outfit!
She also had snowmen on each fingernail!
Beyond our reach this Christmas is our family.  Three of the families got together yesterday for dinner.  Thank you for taking the picture Grandpa and Grandma Hansen.  All these children, in this photo, are the reason we live, love and have joy in our lives.  This picture is heavenly!  We love each of you and the other two families not pictured.  We are so blessed to be a part of all of your lives.  Thank you for the way you love your families and us.  We love you, each of you!  We hope each of our children and their families have the best Christmas Day ever.   Many blessing for 2015.
Patty (the diner Innkeeper) heard we did not have a tree so she presented us with this tree and decorations to attach today.  Are we blessed or what?
"So, at this time, we greet you, not quite as the world sends greetings but with esteem and with the Prayer that for you, now and forever, the Day breaks and the shadows flee away."  ...Fra Giovanni
We will close this epistle and get ready to go watch the Memphis Tigers and BYU Cougars...
"We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year"!
Hugs,
Elder and Sister Bushman
Grandpa Arthur and Grandma Gene
