THE FORBIDDEN FRUIT

MY CULINARY EXPERIENCE
I went down to breakfast on Tuesday and Patty, at the Inn,  gave me a handful of soft banana's.  So I decided to bake banana bread in my toaster oven.  I went and purchased a tin bread pan and mixed up a loaf.  I put it in my toaster oven.  After cooking about 20 minutes the loaf had raised and the top had burned on the top of this tiny oven.  So I took the pan out cut off the top...poured half the mix in a bowl and cooked two loaves.  It was yummy with all the fresh bananas in it.  But, it sure looked strange.  I am not good at baking in a toaster oven.  So what to do with two odd shaped banana loaves....take them to the temple of course.  There was not a crumb left.  I even got compliments on how moist it was.  However, no one told me that the loaves were pretty.  Oh, there are also tons of fruit flies in our room from those nice soft banana's that had the flies as a bonus, there are three on the screen as I write this.  UG!
Wednesday we served from 8-5 in the temple.  I am still pondering Moroni and Joseph Smith and the miracles that occurred in this area of The Church.  I am more in tune with the ordinances this week and the blessings that are promised with them.  I served in the office in the afternoon shift and pondered all the prayer roll names that were taken.  We had several people call to make appointments to take out their own endowments.  The excitement that they were ready and had a recommend in their hands had me thrilled for them too.  I also took two wedding (sealing) appointments, both calls by the future bridegrooms that were fun to question.  As we came out of the temple there was a slight breeze and the sun was shining.  Elder Bushman said, "Oh, Genie, we can't stay in on an evening like this.  So we changed our temple clothing into our "driving clothing" and took off to Lake Ontario.
We ate dinner on its shores.  I got my favorite greasy hamburger and we dined at a picnic table.

The  lake was calm and peaceful.    Do you see a man in this picture?
There was Jesus sitting on the shore!  He too was pondering this beautiful scene.
His fishermen were out on the lake in their sailboats.
Elder Bushman climbed down the cliff to skip rocks.
 He stood beside the sailboats.
Treasure seeking among the rocks, looking for the perfect flat rock.
Then the sunset and it got chilly.  We watched it light up the water and then left.
We should have stayed because as we looked back it was like a watercolor brush had painted the sky.  We missed the best display of coloring ever!
The apple trees, in this garden paradise are in full fruit mode...there were tons of orchard's ready for the picking!
It is a good crop this year.  I'm sure they taste delicious.  They certainly looked desirable, but we were good and did not pick any.
I talked Elder Bushman into stopping so I could take a close picture of the trees.
As we went to the temple on Wednesday we saw how this tree at the entrance is changing into it's fall colors...so pretty.
A bus was parked in the Inn lot.  Wade Tours is from Schenectady, New York.  "Nice drivers, clean buses and a fair price", is their motto.  When we drove in after dark and our headlight hit Wade Tours the letters were florescent!  My father, David Wade drove a bus for the Atomic Energy Commission in Arco Idaho.  When I see these Wade buses I feel a hug from heaven!  Especially after serving all day Wednesday in the temple.  "The wheels on the bus go round and round....beep, beep...all through the town."
We served a morning and evening shift in the Temple on Thursday.  We had a Sister from Ecuator come with her non member son-in-law and presently not attending daughter.  This Sister was so excited to attend the temple.  Her family waited in the foyer for her.  As this sweet sister went past the office her face was aglow...now that is why I enjoy serving here.  I hope I can always see her face, in my mind.  Moroni announced this Ecuadorian ethnic visitor, and welcomed her.

Many of the part time missionaries went to the "Saints Unified Voices" directed by Gladys Knight .
I suppose it is "still midnight" as Gladys Knight came to perform here at a Stake Center on a day that we were serving and we missed both showings.  I heard, through the grape vine, that the two hour program was fantastic and the Choir and Gladys had the audience mesmerized!  Great job Sister Knight!

"Th “One Voice” - A Presentation of Music & Testimony

"Through familiar hymns and spoken words, the 100 voices of the Saints Unified Voices (SUV Choir) harmonizes with “One Voice” in worship and celebration of Jesus Christ as it takes the audience on an extraordinary multicultural adventure of music and testimony. The choir’s performance of energetic soulful music praising Jesus Christ dominates the presentation.

Legendary entertainer Gladys Knight not only directs this Grammy Award-winning choir, but she also shares her faith in Jesus Christ and her religious journey. And yes, she sings too! Gladys Knight’s enthusiasm for the gospel of Jesus Christ and her professionalism make this musical presentation a truly extraordinary experience that touches the hearts of God’s children from every nation, kindred, tongue and faith".

So it is Friday and I get back from swimming and Elder Bushman tells me we are going on an excursion with Elder and Sister Christensen again.  We are going to the Glenn Hammond Curtiss Museum in Hammondsport, NY.  We were back in time for our 5 PM temple assignment.   Have you even heard of Mr. Curtiss?  Neither had I.  Well, as I write this I now know who he is!  On our way to Hammondsport, we drove by several grape fields.  I talked Elder Bushman into stopping by one like we did the apple trees.  You can't see the grapes from the road.  Aren't they beautiful?  These are the purple Concord's with seeds!
Elder Christensen took a picture of Peggy and I in the middle of the patch.  You can see dark areas among the vines, but not really tell they are grapes until close up.  Again we forfeited sampling them.
We arrived at the museum mid morning.  There were two coon, hound dog, puppies greeting us at the door.  My sister Linda would have loved them.  Don't tell her, but I too thought they were cute.  They were noisy however.
"Indulge your need for speed and learn about the “Fastest Man on Earth” at the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum in Hammondsport, NY. A local hero and pioneer in the in the fields of aviation and mechanics, Curtiss constantly sought to push the boundaries of human travel. The museum is a testament to his life of experimentation and to the beloved history of Hammondsport. Explore one of many exhibits which include antique airplanes, engines, motorcycles and boats."  He also created the first travel trailer, or motor home.  He died of appendicitis at age 51. This is one of the many planes Curtiss designed. Curtiss is remembered today as the Father of Naval Aviation and the founder of the American Aircraft Industry!  I wonder what he has created since entering heaven?
A picture in the museum made all from human hair.
There were many miniature boats, planes, and doll houses there.
This was Elder Bushman's favorite display...a yellow car?
We could use these to travel from the Inn to the temple this winter!
Elder Christensen liked this bike plane!
Put the petal to the metal Elder Bushman.
 The first boat air plane.
Curtiss V-8 Motorcycle, he developed this V-8 cylinder motorcycle in 1903.  He decided to see how fast it would go.  On January 24, 1907 he had a stopwatch proved that Curtiss traveled the measured mile in 26-2/5 seconds, or 136.36 miles per hour.  He became known as the "Fastest Man on Earth" - a title that he was to hold until 1911.

We left the museum and found a fruit stand selling local grapes....we purchased both kinds....yum!  My dreams in Palmyra have been accomplished, I have tasted of the grapes, tomatoes, corn and the apples.  I pronounce them all very good!
Then we stopped at a cute little diner where we indulged in fish and chips...it was yummy.
As we drove home we went to a very interesting dairy farm.  It is the Herndale Dairy Farm in Seneca Castle, NY.  They milk over 900 head herd's averaging 90 pounds of milk per cow.
This cow produced another half  of this tank before she was finished milking!

"By milking with robots, our cows can do whatever they want, whenever they want. They eat when they want. They sleep when they want. They drink when they want," said Ryan Akin.

When a cow wants, she enters the robotic milking station, the machine scans the cow’s identification number to see if she needs to be milked.
If the cow is not ready to be milked, a gate will open on the opposite end of the station to signal the cow to leave the area. If she is ready to be milked, the milking cups are automatically placed over the teats and the milking begins. The process takes approximately 8 minutes, and the cow is fed food pellets while she’s waiting.
When the cows are tired, they lay on air mattresses.
We wandered in and watched the cows eat.  Then they all saw us and started to follow us, they are friendly cows.  Peggy said, "they are as curious about us as we are about them"!  So we went back to the windows to view them so we didn't get them all "stirred up".

Then back to Palmyra we scooted and served in the Friday evening session.  I was assigned in the bapistry so did laundry all evening.  The warm clothes, right out of the dryer, felt so good on my arthritic hands.  We had a 12 year old boy that it was his first time serving and a couple who were in their 70's and it was their first time also.  The group had about 12 members present.  It was a good session.  Thank's to each of you for your faithfulness in fulfilling this eternal assignment.  You are awesome!

Here we are back to Saturday.  We are awaiting the BYU game this afternoon!  We are playing Virginia in Provo.
Hurrah for BYU!
Training camp is over and it is time to play ball.  We will blog again soon.
