The Trumpets are sounding at the Hill Cumorah Pageant this week!
The week of Pagaent has begun. There are many cast members visiting the temple this week. Our service in the temple this week has been peaceful and calm. Summer in the temple is such a great experience. People from all over the world have come to Palmyra to pay homage to Joseph Smith and they attend the temple to ponder the Atonement of Jesus Christ and how it affects their own lives. We are so thankful to serve in The House of the Lord.
July 10, 2014 was our oldest son's 44th birthday. Happy Birthday Eric! We have been pondering where all the years have gone. We are pleased you spent your 44th with your brother Todd & your sister Heather and the in-laws and so many of our priceless grandbabies. We loved you from the day we set eyes on you and we enjoyed your help when the twins, Todd & Troy, were babies. So many memories we have of our life with our first born.
Todd's wife Allyson also shares her Birthday with Eric. We know Allyson's parents adore their first born daughter also. Happy Birthday to our Eric and Allyson.
Happy 44 and many more!
After we finished our eventful day at the Palmyra Temple on Thursday evening, we went to dinner with Howard and Karin Stansel, our friends from when we all lived in the Houston, Texas area. They are serving at the Sacred Grove area for two weeks during Pageant. Their daughter and her family are in the Pageant this year. We hadn't seen each other for almost 10 years, but it was like our friendship hadn't missed a beat! We sat & froze together during the rehearsal. Can you see us in the audience?
Last evening was the dress rehearsal for the Hill Cumorah Pageant. It didn't begin till almost 9:30 PM. When the sun went down it got down right chilly at the hill! The temperature dropped into the 50's. The Pagaent Story is an edited script from the Bible and the Book of Mormon. There are 10 scenes beginning with the Prophet Lehi and ending with The Hill Cumorah's happenings in the life of Joseph Smith. Tonight, as trumpeters played from the crest of the hill, our minds were warmed at the familiarity of the scriptural scenes we were witnessing. "With its sound and lighting, its special effects, and its elaborate costuming, the pageant is still carefully designed to present the simple message of Jesus Christ's love for all people".
Over 800 cast and crew members have come together to bring all of us a message of hope and peace that can be found only in the gospel of Jesus Christ.
We had a few servers in the temple that are in the cast. We were delighted to visit with several of them. I had to take a picture of the Cusolito's. She is always asking me if there is anything I need help with? Brother Cusolito was laughing about wearing a skirt! I think they just look ancient in their costumes! They did excellent in their Nephite rolls!
For our Friday evening date we are going back to Skaneateles Lake for a Moonlight Cruise and another feast at the Doug's Fish Fry. It is Sister Lynnette Neeley's Birthday. She has requested we all join her and celebrate with her. She is our Sister Missionary that broke both bones in her right ankle.
Elder Bushman and I look forward to leaving the City of Palmyra Pagaent guests behind for the evening. There are hundreds & perhaps thousands of people cruising the sites here...the traffic is like Branson, Mo. gets at night! We ate at Doug's and found this fun picture of him.
There was a city concert before the cruise. There was a community band that played. We really enjoyed the music they played.
The moon was spectacular on the water. It was the perfect evening to go on a moonlight cruise.
We really enjoyed our cruise and it was very, very dark when the boat docked & the moon was awesome.
This Saturday was cousin's visiting day. Reed and Sheryl Hancock, who are on a mission with CES in New Jersey brought over 100 institute students to the Pageant this weekend. We were able to visit with them a while tonight before they left to watch the play. They are staying in the Inn right across from our room! Sheryl is one of Art's favorite cousins. Their families spent many summers at family reunions together. Sheryl has an older sister Janell that Art ran around with at the reunions. He was so excited to visit with Reed and Sheryl. They are great examples for us. Reed was a Stake President when my Uncle Lanny & Aunt Bonnie Nalder served a mission in Tucson, Arizona several years ago.
Full of work and full of play—
I dropped the worry on the way—
And God was good to me everyday."

We found the library and went on a tour of it. They had free internet also...& it was fun to see the children's reading center. They had puzzle's in the adult area to put together.
They had a good crowd to play for.
We really enjoyed our cruise and it was very, very dark when the boat docked & the moon was awesome.
Did you see the full moon this week...it is beautiful!
Another couple staying in the Inn this weekend. This is Darrell & Laurel Bushman Batson. They live in Las Vegas . They are here with Darrell's two brothers. They saw our name tags this morning and made us wait while they ran and got Laurel. So we had a genealogy conversation throughout the day. Too fun to be a Bushman and have so many wonderful cousins.
As we drove to Cortland for our Church meetings today we decided to take pictures of the eagle nests we pass by each time we make this drive.
We pass several of them each Sunday. They are so fun to see as the birds are so regal in watching over their nests.
While we were in our meetings today we could hear it raining outside. It did not sound too bad, but when we went out to our car there was a tree that had broken off at its base and was laying in front of our car. It missed hitting us but fell on the car next to us and dented the hood. It was not a huge tree so the driver had pushed it off. We felt sorry for them but the wife said our car has several dents and this just adds to the character of our hood. At least it didn't break their window or the headlights... too scarry.
We took a different route home and were driving down a beautiful road when we saw this sign and turned around and took some photo's.
The farm was so beautiful.
Look how close he lived to the Owasco finger lake. I bet he rode a bike down this road many times. I'm sure he spent many summer days swimming in the lake.
He was the founder of Standard Oil...too fun that we found his boyhood home. He lived from July 8, 1839 to May 23, 1937. This is a photo of him in 1885.
"I was early taught to work as well as play,
My life has been one long, happy holiday;Full of work and full of play—
I dropped the worry on the way—
And God was good to me everyday."
I wonder what he would think of the hydraulic fracking drilling technique going on today? We know what New York politicians think...it is not allowed in this State. IF ANYONE WANTS TO SEE ELDER BUSHMAN BECOME ANIMATED ASK HIM WHAT HE THINKS OF FRACKING! He is my handsome Geologist!
I'm so glad we have been assigned to visit Cortland weekly. We have such a wonderful Family group there. I thank each of them for their faith, their examples and their friendship. Our Spiritual Leader, Bishop Scanlon, was the main speaker in our meeting today. He counseled us to watch how we communicate to each other. He gave several examples on being positive and how we may come over negative by our actions when we don't mean to. I've been pondering how I come across with this blog and the memories I am trying to save. I will work on following the great advice he gave us.
Our schedule at the temple is different this week of Pageant. We are to be ready to serve in the temple by 7:30 AM the next three days. No swimming for me till the end of the week. We then have two of our awesome grandchildren coming to visit us again....oh, and their parents are bringing them. We really look forward to their visit. We are blessed to have the weekend off and can be tourists with them for three days! I hope they enjoy the Pageant as much as we did!
These are our grandchildren Tanner & Elizabeth with us and their parents Todd and Allyson. Thank's for coming to visit us...we are excited to see you soon!
Good Sabbath to each of you... "drop your worries and know God is good to you every day".
"God be with you till we meet again".
