ELDER BUSHMAN IS NOW 68!

OUR LOVELY LETTER FROM OUR GRANDDAUGHTER ELIZABETH ARRIVED ON JUNE 5, 2014.  I love that we are gramah and grampah!  We are loved!  Being gramparents...is the bestest!
I found these two photo's of the Palmyra Temple at Jarvie Digital "Pictures with personality".
This looks just the way all the church property here looks after lawn mowing day....and the air smells of clipped grass.  The grass here is thick & lush like our green carpet at home, Ha!
This picture is an ariel view of the temple structure that was where the Theodore F. Bellafontaine home was standing when President Hinkley visited Palmyra to choose a location for the 100th temple to be announced.  Mr. Bellafontaine's home was not disturbed till after his death.  The Palmyra Temple was the 77th Temple Dedication.   I would say that this is a picture with personality.  What do you think?
Mr. Bellafontaine's home, after his death in 1997, was moved higher up the hill and is now The Palmyra Temple President's home.  We hold many missionary activities in their full basement.  President Brighton has a lovely garden spot in the back of the house.  I will try to take pictures of that before the summer ends.
Our travels this morning took us to Ganondagan State Historic Site.  This is in Victor, N Y.  This is the Native "Town of Peace" and they believe the "Mother of Nations was buried there in 900 AD.  The site has recreated a Seneca bark longhouse below.  Several families shared a longhouse.  The interior of the longhouse was divided into sections. Four to five families lived in each longhouse.   Two-tiered bunks lined each wall.  The first tier was used as sleeping quarters for each  family.  The upper tiers were used as storage for that family.  Each group of families shared a central fire.
Haudenosaunee peoples lives are a part of this Longhouse history. These beautiful daisies are in the gardens by the longhouse.  The Mohawk tribe are the "keepers of The Eastern Door" and Seneca tribe are "keepers of The Western Door".  The Onondagas are "keepers of The Central Fire". The sky is the roof and the ground is the floor..may we have the Peace that the Peacekeeper taught the Senaca Nation in this "Town of Peace".
This picture of "the birthday Elder" is a close view of the bark that the house is made from.  I am going to read up about the history of this area.  I know Vikonsahseh met and advised the "Peacemaker" and because of her women are a part of the political keepers for the nation.
Mollusk Shells were made into wampum jewelry and belts and used to communicate sacred messages between tribes.

June 7, 2014...today is Elder Bushman's birthday and our Cortland Ward Temple day.  The ward had a picnic at the Stake Center in Palmyra.  We did a session at 9:30 am with the Ward members and a 70 year old gentleman in a wheel chair had Elder Bushman seal him to his parents.  The members who could not yet attend the temple had President Broadbent give them a tour of the Temple Property and the children touched the windows and building as he described the sacredness of the temple.

As we were walking out of the Temple, Todd's family called and sang Happy Birthday to Grampah!  He also talked to all of the children and several grandchildren & several family and friends today...it was a beautiful summer day in Palmyra New York.  Thank's for making Elder Bushman's day!
Sunday June 8, 2014  We drove to Cortland and had great Ward meetings.  Then we went and visited a widower who hasn't been attending.  He lives in a trailer court and was building a new porch on it.  He has a word of wisdom problem and is in poor health.  We had a good visit and he said he should go back to church...and we are welcome to visit any time.  We then took the Sacrament to the Carman's again. They had new baby kittens.  Brother Ayers gave us another loaf of bread!  It is yummy.  We shared the loaf with the Carman family.

On our way home we went past Ithica NY and Cornell University.  It is a beautiful community.  Then we stopped and looked at the Taughannock Falls by Ulysses NY.
A couple was standing above on the stairs giving each other their vows...we watched them pledge their love to each other in marriage...we hope they have a successful long life together!
Then when we returned to Palmyra we drove to the Palmyra Cemetery and toured it with President Brighton showing us several graves of people like the Bean daughter that died when she was 18, the great grandparents graves of Winston Churchill,  the Lucy Harris grave etc.  We passed this headstone that I found very interesting...do you think Harry D Rogers is one of the three Nephites?  His family headstone has no date on his death!  Just wondering?
"Experience the spirit of Elijah...Remember, we without our roots and branches cannot be saved....We finally have the doctrine, the temples, and the technology for families to accomplish this glorious work of salvation." Elder Quentin L. Cook
ENJOY THIS SECOND WEEK OF JUNE...AND REMEMBER TO TELL YOUR CHILDREN THAT YOU LOVE THEM....WE LOVE OUR CHILDREN!!!
