Exodus 28:36
Author: Brown, Victor L., Jr.
Fathers' blessings are given by the power of the Melchizedek Priesthood following the pattern of the ancient Patriarchs, such as Adam, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Lehi, Mosiah, Alma, and Mormon. All gave blessings to their children. Adam's final blessing upon several of his descendants is described in Doctrine and Covenants 107:53-57. So significant was the ordinance on that occasion that "the Lord appeared unto them, and they rose up and blessed Adam" (TPJS, p. 38).
For the earthly blessing to be honored in heaven, it is necessary that a father has been baptized, has received the Holy Ghost, and bears the Melchizedek Priesthood. Through these ordinances and covenants, the father may claim the powers of heaven to guide his thoughts and ratify his words. To give such a blessing, the father places his hands upon the head of his child, and assures the child by word and spirit that the blessing, spoken by a loving parent, comes with divine approval and inspiration.
The father may give blessings when requested by his wife or children or when he feels their need. He does not force a blessing on anyone, for that would conflict both with the law of agency and the spirit of love. There is no ideal frequency for such blessings, only as the needs of the person and the whisperings of the Spirit suggest. A father will find performing this sacred ordinance easier if his relationships with his children are gentle and kind. If there is a conflict between father and child, it may be necessary to reconcile it before attempting the blessing.
A father's blessing is both an ordinance authorized by God and an action that draws father and child together even as it reassures a mother, who sees her husband spiritually minister to their child. It is a symbolic and official godlike act of pure love.
Each time I enter The House Of The Lord I feel like I have been given another Fathers Blessing. We hope many of you will attend the Temple often. As Fathers Day approaches this year I remember how blessed I am to have the Melchizedek Priesthood in my home. I am thankful that Elder Bushman felt impressed to act upon giving our children Fathers blessings when our children were young. THANK YOU, ELDER BUSHMAN , for being such a good Father and Grandfather to our devoted offspring! We love, love, love our family.
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO THE MANY FATHERS' THAT I KNOW AND LOVE. MAY YOU FEEL THE LOVE OF OUR HEAVENLY FATHER ON THIS VERY IMPORTANT SUNDAY AND ALWAYS.

This is Elder Bushman's Father Elwin Ewing Bushman
We have pictures of his family, but I couldn't get one to save...but Happy Father's Day to Elwin too! Grandpa Elwin Served in the Palmyra mission in the 1937 and was in The Hill Cumorah pageant on his mission.
Friday 13, 2014 we toured the Martin Harris home. The basement was built by Joseph Sr. and Hyrum Smith.
The original Martin Harris home burned down and the owners built this home. Three sets of missionaries live there now and it is not open to tours...unless you know the missionaries...ha.
This home is one of the original lake-stone houses. There are only about 700 of these homes. They are built with stones from the lakes and the masons who built them used a special mortar that no one has been able to duplicate...I told Elder Bushman it must have tooth paste in it...ha. The homes are holding up for over 100 years and have not deteriorated from their foundations...excellent workmanship! All the rocks were sorted so they are the same size and have such an awesome pattern!
We then went to The Wizard of Clay where Elder Bushman bought a huge clay platter to put our holiday meat on whenever we again celebrate with our children and their families. It was in Bloomfield NY. We were with the Neeley's from Salt Lake City, Utah and the Christensen's from Preston, Idaho.
We also had our two single sister missionaries with us. Sister Griffeth from Preston, Idaho who lived in Rexburg, Idaho before and knows my wonderful Uncle Max! Sister Read is from Orem, Utah. She served in Ireland with the Brighton's our Temple President and he requested she serve here with them again. We then all went to lunch at Mill Creek Cafe in Honeoye, NY and I had sweet potato fries! Yum...then we hurried back to Palmyra to serve our Friday evening shift in the temple. It was a good Friday the 13th! However, it was my last day to swim for three weeks...sob. The High School is powerwashing & repairing and cleaning the pool.
Happy Fathers Day to our wonderful sons Eric, Todd, Troy & Ryan.
We served at the 7:30 AM Saturday session. Our coordinator told us that her mother was ADHD and had trouble making friends. She told her daughter that she doubted anyone would even care for her grave after she was gone. When this sister went to care for her mothers grave after a winter break, she found the grass trimmed around it and it was beautifully cared for. While she was standing there surprised a caretaker for the cemetery came over and said did you know Mary? She said I am her daughter. He said when I was young your mother was the lunch monitor at the school and she always gave me a nickel to buy milk. She always had an apron full of nickels that she gave we poor children. When I saw she was now residing in this cemetery I knew I could pay her back for her kindness. He has been caring for her grave for over 30 years and this sister always finds it well taken care of. "Cast thy bread upon the waters:" Ecclesiastes 11:1
Thank's for the cards and wishes for Grandpa Art on Fathers Day. I took him to Red Lobster for Coconut Shrimp Saturday night...he is full of joy! Have a wonderful Father's Day everyone and Happy Birthday to our bestest friend Laurie Bithell! Last but most importantly we thank our former leaders in the Oklahoma City Stake, President's Graves, Baclawski, and Crane. Thank you for you great service & example. We love and honor you. To the new Stake Presidency (who didn't sleep well last night), Happy Father's Day! May Our Heavenly Father's blessings be with each of you now and always. Hurrah for Israel!!!
